Taiz: Human rights activist abducted in Al-Turba amid growing security anarchy

TAIZ, Feb. 05 (YPA) – The city of Al-Turba, the administrative center of Al-Shamayatayn District in Taiz Governorate, witnessed a fresh escalation on Wednesday, with the abduction of human rights activist Mohammed Ahmed Al-Dhubhani.

The incident unfolds against a backdrop of deteriorating security in areas controlled by Islah Party factions.

Human rights sources confirmed that an armed group led by Mohammed Al-Hafiz Al-Dhubhani (widely known as “Al-Zeer”) intercepted the activist and forcibly took him to an undisclosed location.

Witnesses described the abduction as “brutal,” reporting that Al-Dhubhani was subjected to severe physical assault and explicit death threats. The targeting is reportedly linked to his vocal criticism of collapsing public services and the prevailing state of lawlessness.

In a related development highlighting the security vacuum, Hanan Maresh—a female recruit in the Military Police—revealed that influential military commanders are exerting pressure to obstruct justice in her attempted assassination case.

Maresh stated that the Military Prosecution in Taiz has failed to take legal action against the perpetrator.

In response to these violations, the activist “Maresh” called on human rights and community circles to participate in a protest on Thursday in front of the pro-Saudi Arabia local authority building on Jamal Street in the center of Taiz, to demand the arrest of the perpetrators, the cessation of the encroachment of armed gangs, and the provision of protection for citizens and activists.
