TAIZ, Feb. 04 (YPA) – Popular and tribal tensions have escalated in Al-Wazi’iyah district of Taiz province following a crime committed by members of the “Guards of the Republic,” a force led by Tareq Saleh, amid as severe security disorder in areas under the control of the Saudi-led coalition.
Tribal and local sources reported that, last Monday, a military vehicle affiliated with Tareq Saleh’s forces struck a motorcycle carrying two civilians, one from the Al-Mashawilah tribe and the other from the Al-Alaqimah tribe.
Instead of providing assistance, the soldiers allegedly looted the victims’ personal belongings and mobile phones and left them bleeding by the roadside, an incident that, according to the sources, reflects a lack of basic humanitarian standards within the force.
The sources said the district security authority, affiliated with the Presidential Leadership Council, did not pursue the suspects or initiate legal action, a response that, they claim, underscores institutional inaction in the face of forces led by Tareq Saleh and backed by the UAE.
In response, the Al-Mashawilah tribe issued a strongly worded statement condemning the incident and holding the forces affiliated with Tareq Saleh responsible for the safety of their members.
The statement announced a state of tribal mobilization, warning that the tribe would not stand idly by if authorities failed to act, stressing its determination to protect its members and pursue accountability.
The incident has renewed local debate over security in the district and highlights growing frustration among some communities over what they describe as lawlessness and a lack of accountability.
