LATAKIA, Feb. 03 (YPA) – For the second consecutive day, labor protests continue in the coastal city of Latakia following the dismissal of several port workers, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Protesting workers reported that authorities affiliated with the “Syrian Interim Government” appointed approximately 90 new employees while simultaneously terminating the services of existing staff.
The move reportedly ignored established standards of seniority and expertise and was carried out without official notice or clear justification.
The protesters, mostly Latakia locals, warned of the severe economic impact on dozens of families who rely on the port as their primary source of income. They are calling for a reversal of the dismissals and a transparent investigation into the recent hiring practices to ensure professional fairness.
