Palestinian factions condemn Israeli escalation in Gaza, call for int’l action

GAZA, Jan. 31 (YPA) – The Palestinian resistance factions o Saturday condemned the ongoing Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem considered that the occupation’s allegations regarding the shelling of civilians under the pretext of responding to alleged violations of the ceasefire agreement were only pretexts to justify its crimes and overturn existing understandings.

He said that the false Israeli claims reflected the occupation’s disregard for mediators, guarantor states and all parties participating in the so-called “Peace Council”.

Qassem called on the international community, the United Nations and its human rights institutions to clearly condemn the massacres, take practical measures to stop them and hold the leaders of the occupation accountable, warning that impunity encourages more killing and destruction.

For its part, the Islamic Jihad movement stressed that targeting civilians and blowing up houses is a continuation of the occupation government’s approach to committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, pointing out that the escalation aimed to impose new military and security realities in the Strip, and shirking the obligations of the second phase of the agreements, and the US administration held the political responsibility to provide protection to war criminals.

Meanwhile, the Al-Ahrar movement also condemned the targeting of the occupation aircraft at the Sheikh Radwan police station, which led to the martyrdom of a number of officers and elements along with civilians, considering that this falls within the framework of striking the security system after the failure of the occupation’s attempts to spread chaos, and called on mediators and guarantors to pressure to hold the occupation accountable for its violations.

The Democratic Front for the liberation of Palestine also warned that the Israeli escalation, which has so far resulted in about 30 martyrs, threatens the fate of political understandings and Security Council Resolution No. 2803, stressing that the continuation of this war more than four months after the ceasefire proved the occupation’s disregard for the guarantors, and called on the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey to take a firm position and impose binding mechanisms to implement the full benefits of the agreement, including a complete withdrawal from Gaza and the cessation of all forms of aggression.
