ADEN, Jan. 21 (YPA) – The UAE on Wednesday accused on Wednesday Saudi Arabia and the Muslim Brotherhood of abandoning political engagement and resorting to what it described as “the language of bombings and security extortion” in the city of Aden and other southern provinces of Yemen.
Khalid Al-Shumeiri, head of the Center for Political Studies in Abu Dhabi and a political adviser to Tareq Saleh, nephew of the farmer president Ali Abdullah Saleh, said Saudi Arabia’s attempts to use violence and bloodshed as a pressure tool against what he referred to as the dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC), backed by the UAE, were aimed at destabilizing the situation in southern Yemen.
In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Al-Shumeiri stated that Saudi Arabia’s reliance on spreading chaos would ultimately fail in the face of what he described as the “will of the people of the southern provinces.”
He added that the resurgence of bombings and assassinations in Aden and other southern areas coincided with what he called the “withdrawal of UAE forces,” citing the attempted assassination of Brig. Gen. Hamdi Shoukry, commander of the Second Giants Brigade, in a car bombing shortly after his announced alignment with the “Jeddah alliance with Riyadh.”
Al-Shumeiri further claimed that terrorism is primarily linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and Saudi Arabia’s camp in Marib, pointing to near-weekly U.S. airstrikes targeting Al-Qaeda leaders in the area.
He concluded by asserting that Saudi Arabia is the sole beneficiary of the deterioration of security in Aden, aiming to instill fear and prevent residents of the southern provinces from participating in demonstrations called for by Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, head of the STC, next Friday.
