Saudi Arabia gives UAE-backed factions 24 hours to leave Aden

ADEN, Jan. 15 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia on Thursday gave UAE-backed factions a new deadline to leave Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, the main stronghold of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), media outlets reported, citing STC’s sources

Falah Al-Shahrani, advisor to the commander of the Saudi-led coalition, tasked with overseeing Aden, had given the STC faction leaders 24 hours to withdraw their forces from the city along with heavy weapons.

Al-Shahrani said late on Wednesday that orders for military camps to leave Aden remained in force.

The deadline coincided with the start of a Saudi deployment of its own forces across Aden’s streets and neighbourhoods, replacing the defeated forces stationed there.

According to the sources, Saudi Arabia appears to be seeking to consolidate control over the city.
