Beijing rejects Washington’s threats to impose tariffs on Iran’s trading partners

BEIJING, Jan. 13 (YPA) – China has voiced its firm opposition to US President Donald Trump’s recent threat to impose a 25% tariff on countries conducting business with Iran, labeling such measures as “unlawful, unilateral sanctions.”

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington stated that Beijing’s rejection of “indiscriminate tariffs” is consistent and clear.

The spokesperson emphasized that “there are no winners in tariff and trade wars,” asserting that coercion and pressure fail to resolve underlying international issues.

This friction adds to the existing volatility between Beijing and Washington, particularly following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

China reaffirmed its commitment to taking “all necessary measures” to protect its legitimate rights and interests, criticizing unilateral actions that “gravely undermine the international order.”
