Two Palestinian children dies due to extreme cold in Gaza

GAZA, Jan. 13 (YPA) – Two Palestinian children have died in Gaza’s displacement camps due to extreme cold, the Ministry of Health in Gaza said on  Tuesday.

The ministry said the two deaths bring the total number of cold-related fatalities to six since the start of the winter season

Gaza’s Government Media Office stated that 127,000 tents in displacement camps across the Gaza Strip are uninhabitable amid the deepest low-pressure system to hit the area since this evening, as the region faces a severe shortage of heating supplies and blankets exceeding 70 percent.

Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal said that since last evening, four deaths have been recorded as a result of partial collapses of damaged buildings caused by the current storm affecting the Gaza Strip.

He stressed that the situation is extremely dangerous, noting that buildings are no longer safe shelters for residents amid ongoing rain and strong winds.

Bassal called on international organizations and the international community to take urgent action to provide support and protection for affected civilians.
