SANAA, Jan. 09 (YPA) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday that elements affiliated with the Ministry of Defense of the interim government carried out an extrajudicial execution of two staff members of Othman Hospital in Ashrafieh neighborhood of Aleppo, after a raid on the neighborhood by Ministry forces and armed groups loyal to them on Thursday.
The Observatory explained, citing relatives of the victims and field sources, that the two men killed were a pharmacist at the hospital, and his uncle, a medical technician at the same hospital.
According to available information, Othman Hospital was targeted with several RPG rounds before being stormed by Ministry of Defense forces.
The Observatory indicated that after the armed elements entered the hospital, the two victims were arrested along with a third person who was present at the scene, adding that the victims’ families tried to contact authorities and officials in Aleppo to find out the fate of the detainees, before receiving confirmations, accompanied by photos, that they had been executed by firing squad inside the hospital.
The families of the two victims confirmed that they were civilians and did not belong to any military or political entity, and were not carrying weapons, pointing out that the two men continued to perform their duties at the hospital in response to the urgent medical needs of the neighborhood’s residents, given the difficult humanitarian conditions and the severe shortage of health services.
This incident comes amid escalating tensions and clashes in Ashrafieh neighborhood between the Asayish (internal security forces) and fighters of the Transitional government, resulting in civilian casualties and increased pressure on medical facilities.
