MSF: Gaza’s Children dying from severe cold weather

GAZA, Dec. 20 (YPA) – Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has warned of a rise in child deaths in the Gaza Strip due to the severe cold weather, amid ongoing restrictions imposed by Israeli occupation authorities on the entry of humanitarian aid.

In a statement, the organization said that a 29-day-old infant died at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza just two hours after being admitted to the pediatric ward supported by Doctors Without Borders.

It added that despite all medical efforts, the child’s life could not be saved, as he died due to a severe drop in body temperature.

Doctors Without Borders warned that harsh winter weather, combined with already dire living conditions, is exacerbating health risks.

The organization noted that its teams continue to record high rates of respiratory infections, which are expected to increase throughout the winter season, posing a serious threat to children under the age of five.

Regarding the current low-pressure weather system, the organization said that while Gaza is experiencing heavy rainfall and severe storms, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians continue to suffer while living in temporary, dilapidated tents flooded with water.

It also called on the Israeli authorities to immediately allow the large-scale and intensified entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
