Colombian President mocks Trump’s decision to close Venezuelan airspace
BOGOTA, Dec. 01 (YPA) – Colombian President Gustavo Petro questioned the legality of President Donald Trump’s announcement to completely close the airspace over Venezuela on Sunday.
In a post on the “X” platform, Petro wondered, “Under what rule of international law can a head of state close the airspace to another state?”
Speaking as both the President of Colombia and the President of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Petro stressed that the absence of an international rule permitting this—coupled with the current failure of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to perform its role—means this action undermines the concept of national sovereignty and international law.
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump announced the complete closure of airspace over Venezuela.
