Unusual volcanic eruption sends smoke clouds over two Hodeida’s districts

HODEIDA, Nov. 24 (YPA) -A geologist in Sanaa said on Sunday that a sudden eruption of Ethiopia’s Erta Ale volcano caused the heavy dust falling in Yemen’s southern Hodeida districts.

In a Facebook post, geologist Fahd Al-Buraq confirmed that the dust observed in Al-Garrahi and Jabal Ras districts, as well as surrounding areas, originated from a volcanic eruption around 4:00 p.m. This type of activity is unusual for Erta Ale, located in Ethiopia’s Afar region.

Al-Buraq explained that the volcanic ash is natural and harmless when it reaches distant areas, as it is rich in nutrients beneficial to soil. The danger is limited to areas near the volcano where hot ash falls.

The eruption occurred about 10 kilometers south of Erta Ale, prompting geophysics teams to travel to the site to assess the situation and evaluate potential risks.
