Gaza Civil Defense warns: Heavy rains drown families, worsening “catastrophic reality”

GAZA, Nov. 15 (YPA) – The spokesperson for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Mahmoud Bassal, warned that the recent heavy rains have led to the drowning of entire families, stressing that the humanitarian situation has become “difficult and catastrophic” due to the lack of resources to cope with the repercussions of the severe weather systems.

Bassal explained that Civil Defense teams are operating with extremely limited capabilities and lack the necessary tools to handle the magnitude of the flood damage, noting that Gaza City was completely submerged within just two hours.

He also indicated that the water inundated tents and temporary homes, making the “living reality harsher than the conditions of the war itself,” given the inability of the dilapidated tents to protect the residents.

The spokesperson called upon the international community to take urgent action to provide adequate and safe shelter to protect civilians from the effects of rains and floods.
