Son of tribal sheikh reveals details about his father’s death in Aden prison

ADEN, Nov. 12 (YPA) -Saad Anis al-Jardami, the son of a tribal sheikh from Yafa, revealed on Tuesday new and shocking details about the assassination of his father, who was killed inside a prison run by the UAE-backed Security Belt Forces in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden — an incident that underscores widespread abuses committed against civilians.

Saad Al-Jardami appeared in a video shared by activists on social media, stating that, for the past five months since his father was assassinated inside prison, the case has remained closed by both the Public Prosecution and the Judicial Council.

He added that no investigation has been initiated into those accused of involvement in his father’s killing under torture in Aden.

He said he was not allowed to have a look at his father’s body except with permission from the commander of the Security Belt Forces, calling the act “inhumane.”

Al-Jardami accused local militias of ruling Aden “in the name of the state and the law” while in reality operating as regional gangs.

According to al-Jardami, his father’s case has been deliberately ignored despite clear evidence implicating the group that raided their home in Al-Buraiqah district during Eid al-Fitr earlier this year and abducted Sheikh Anis al-Jardami.

He said the case exposes the collapse of law and the protection of perpetrators by pro-coalition leadership.

Al-Jardami vowed to continue seeking justice, saying his father’s blood “will not be in vain.”

He described secret prisons run by UAE-backed forces as “mass graves and tools of political revenge” that have operated outside the state’s authority since 2016, amid continued international silence.

Sheikh Anis al-Jardami, a well-known tribal figure from Yafa, was abducted in early April after security forces stormed his home in Al-Buraiqah, reportedly over audio recordings and social media posts criticizing the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

While in detention, al-Jardami was subjected to severe torture at the infamous Security Belt facility supervised by commander Jalal al-Rubaie. Reports allege that he was brutally beaten and mutilated before being transferred to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

In June, the al-Jaradimah tribe issued a statement holding the Security Belt Forces and their commander fully responsible for Sheikh al-Jardami’s death.

The tribe demanded an immediate and independent investigation into the torture he endured, the circulation of humiliating videos, and the disturbing appearance of his name among the dead.

The statement also called for the prosecution of Jalal al-Rubaie for “grave human rights violations.”

The leadership of the UAE-backed Security Belt forces reportedly sought to falsify the medical report issued following the autopsy of Al-Jardami’s body, in an attempt to obscure the circumstances of his death under torture.

According to local sources, the factions claimed that he had died of “chronic illnesses,” in an attempt to cover up the alleged torture he endured in Aden’s notorious prisons.
