SHABWA, 11 (YPA) – Unknown gunmen targeted on Tuesday members of the UAE-backed Shabwa Defense Forces in the Al-Aram area of Habban district, Shabwa province, southeastern Yemen, on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Laqmoush tribes said the armed elements attempted to create confusion by blaming the attack on members of the tribes. This followed the recent events in the area, which erupted after the abduction last month of Sheikh Saleh Mansour Dabi Al-Qumayshi, head of the Dignity Movement, and his companions.
The Laqmoush tribes denied any involvement of their members in the shooting at the Shabwa Defense Forces in Al-Aram area. They condemned the attack and accused unidentified elements of trying to create confusion and sow discord between the tribes, the faction leaders, and the local authorities.
The committee tasked with following up on Sheikh Al-Qumishi’s case described the incident as a cowardly act by unknown parties seeking to exploit the situation and further their own dubious agendas, which do not serve the community.
“We have previously warned against the exploitation of such issues by hidden hands that do not want security and stability for Shabwa province in general, and for the Laqmoush tribes in particular,” the statement added.
It called on the UAE-backed local authorities to deny any opportunity to those who seek to tear apart the social fabric by releasing Sheikh Saleh Dabi, his companions, and their property, as previously agreed.
The statement indicated reaching a solution to the case of Sheikh Dabi al-Qumayshi and his companions would be a golden opportunity to stabilize security and thwart conspiracies targeting the province.
Armed clashes had erupted between the tribes after tribesmen blocked the Shabwa-Aden road in the al-Aram area in protest against the abduction of the head of the “Dignity Movement” and his companions in mid-October, who have not yet been released.
