ABYAN, Nov. 01 (YPA) – Furious popular uprising was launched on Saturday in the city of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan province, south of Yemen, against the illegal levies and extortion imposed by factions affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
In a protest rally, protesters carried banners that denounce rampant corruption and demanding the dismissal of implicated officials.
They also called for the payment of overdue salaries and the improvement of collapsed public services.
The participants that corruption deprived the province of huge revenues that could contribute to improving the lives of citizens, pointing out that billions go into the accounts of faction leaders and officials colluding with them in Abyan.
The protesters indicated that billions being siphoned off into the accounts of the STC’s leaders and their collaborators in Abyan.
The demonstrators affirmed their intention to continue their peaceful escalation until their demands be met, foremost among them the removal of checkpoints and illegal levies that proliferated on public roads.
They condemned the systematic security chaos plaguing Abyan, asserting that it aims to impose a new reality on the province’s residents by factions from Aden, Dhalea, and Lahj.
