MAHRA, Oct. 29 (YPA) – A new batch of foreign forces arrived at Al-Mahra Governorate in eastern Yemen, which is under the control of factions loyal to the coalition, special and informed sources reported.
The sources explained that American and British forces arrived at Al-Ghaydah Airport, located on the Arabian Sea, which has been closed to civilian flights since the end of 2017.
The arrival of the American forces came with similar military movements in Socotra, Shabwa, and the western coast of Yemen, in addition to the Yemeni islands of Mayyun at Bab al-Mandab and Zuqar in the Red Sea.
It is worth noting that Saudi forces closed Al-Ghaydah civilian airport and turned it into a joint military base with American and British forces, amid confirmed reports of the presence of “Israeli” officers at the airport as well, according to statements by the head of the sit-in committee against the foreign presence in Al-Mahra, Sheikh Ali Salem Al-Harizi, in mid-2021.
Foreign military and political visits to Al-Ghaydah Airport are frequent, including a visit by US Ambassador Steven Fagin and the commander of the Fifth Fleet in March 2023.
In a related context, the Saudi-funded “Homeland Shield” factions, formed from Salafist leaders, are working to secure and protect foreign interests in Al-Mahra, and they receive directives to suppress any protests or movements against the foreign presence, amidst growing and widespread popular rejection of this military presence in the governorate.
