SHABWA, Oct. 26 (YPA) – The Laqmush tribes blocked the international road linking the governorates of Aden and Shabwa on Sunday, in protest against the kidnapping of the head of the “Peaceful Dignity Movement”, Sheikh Saleh bin Dabi Al-Qamishi, and his companions by UAE-backed factions, local sources told Yemen Press Agency.
The sources reported that the tribal gunmen set up checkpoints and detained a number of gas and oil tankers passing on the road, in response to the kidnapping of Sheikh Al-Qamishi and his companions last night, at one of the military checkpoints belonging to the “Shabwa Defense” factions funded by the UAE.
The sources explained that the Laqmush tribesmen refused to open the road until the detainees are released unconditionally to end the escalation and open the road.
They pointed out that various areas of the coastal Radhum district are witnessing armed tensions against the UAE factions, which have used the Belhaf gas facility as a military base since the year 2016.
It is expected that tensions between the tribesmen and the Emirati factions will develop into armed confrontations, especially since the Al Wahidi tribesmen have long been demanding access to the service and development projects they deserve from the bounty of their lands.
