SHABWA, Oct. 16 (YPA) – Violent armed clashes erupted between factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition inside the security district building in the Bayhan district of Shabwa province, southeastern Yemen, leading to the cancellation of the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the October 14 Revolution.
Sources familiar with the matter said that the clashes broke into on Wednesday due to an attempt by Mazen al-Hawshbi, a leader of the Salafist factions, the 11th Giants Brigade, to arrest the director of criminal investigations in Bayhan while he was in his office. This attempt escalated the situation between the two sides.
The sources added that security personnel in the security district refused to comply with the order to arrest the director of criminal investigations, which quickly escalated into a heavy exchange of fire inside the Bayhan Security district building. There were reports of injuries, but no precise details were provided regarding the casualties.
In a related development, security personnel in Bayhan announced a strike in protest against what they described as the continued interference of the UAE-backed Giants Brigade in their security work and the management of the district’s affairs.
These clashes and the subsequent security chaos resulted in the cancellation of the October 14 Revolution celebrations in Bayhan, amid a heavy security presence in the city in an attempt to control the deteriorating situation amid the security chaos of Shabwa.
