GAZA, Oct. 15 (YPA) – The United Nations confirmed that it had received notification from the Israeli occupation authorities stating their intention to reduce the number of aid trucks scheduled to enter the Gaza Strip by half, out of approximately 600 trucks that Israel had pledged to allow through after the ceasefire.
In a press conference held yesterday evening, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said that the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) informed the organization in an official letter of its decision to reduce the number of trucks heading to Gaza under the pretext of returning bodies.
Haq added: “We are aware of what was stated in the letter from COGAT,” noting that the United Nations seeks to deliver as much humanitarian aid as possible to Gaza.
He stressed that the international organization calls on all parties to abide by their commitments, including returning the bodies of deceased prisoners and implementing the remaining provisions of the ceasefire agreement, most importantly ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid to civilians in the Strip.
