WEST BANK, Oct. 14 (YPA) – In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Israeli occupation forces carried out a series of raids across various areas of the occupied West Bank, targeting homes of several Palestinian prisoners recently released as part of a prisoner exchange agreement conducted on Monday between Palestinian resistance factions and the Israeli government.
Palestinian sources reported that the occupation forces raided the home of Issam al-Froukh, a freed Palestinian deported to Gaza, in the Ein Munjed neighborhood of Ramallah, and ransacked its contents. Israeli forces also raided the Sateh Marhaba neighborhood in al-Bireh.
The sources added that the occupation forces raided more than seven homes during their raid on the village of Deir Ibzi’, west of Ramallah, and subjected their owners to field investigations. Meanwhile, an Israeli army force raided the village of Ein Arik and the town of Ni’lin, to the west.
In Tulkarm, the occupation forces raided the home of Salam Zaghl, a former prisoner who had been deported as part of the exchange, in the Shweika neighborhood in the northern part of the city.
The military also stormed the home of freed prisoner Munther Nour, in the town of Anabta, east of Tulkarm. Clashes erupted in the area during the incursion, resulting in the injury of a young man by live ammunition.
In Qalqilya, Israeli troops raided the home of Tariq Hassain, another deported former prisoner, located in the city center.
Prior to the release, Israeli occupation forces had reportedly raided the homes of several detainees slated for release, warning their families against public celebrations.
The prisoner release was part of a major exchange deal in which 1,968 Palestinian prisoners were freed from Israeli jails on Monday. Among those released were 250 prisoners serving life sentences, as well as others serving long sentences or facing life imprisonment.
The exchange was carried out under the first and second phases of a ceasefire agreement, brokered during indirect negotiations held in Sharm El-Sheikh, as part of a broader initiative backed by US President Donald Trump to end the war on Gaza.
Of the total released, 1,718 were detainees from Gaza, many of whom had been arrested during the recent military campaign described by Palestinian sources as a genocide.
This deal marks the third major prisoner exchange since the start of the war. In November 2023, approximately 240 Palestinian prisoners were released over several phases as part of a similar agreement.
