PARIS, Sept. 20 (YPA) – French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday that France will formally recognize the State of Palestine on Monday during events in New York. This came during a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
In a statement shared via his official account on the social media platform X, Macron said he discussed the urgent humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories, including the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
The French president said the recognition will be part of a broader peace initiative and will be formally announced during his upcoming visit to New York.
Macron also reiterated France’s longstanding demand for reforms within the Palestinian Authority, emphasizing the need for governance measures to ensure the stability of a future Palestinian state.
According to Macron, President Abbas reaffirmed his commitment to implementing those reforms.
Macron added,” France will continue to support Palestinian institutions and work to ensure the fulfillment of commitments aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.”
