HADRAMOUT, Sept. 06 (YPA) – Head of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) branch in Hadramaut province, Saeed Al-Mohammadi, was injured in a shooting at Mukalla city the province’s capital.
Sabry Salmeen Bin Makhashen, one of journalists in the province, confirmed on Friday in a post on X that gunmen at a security checkpoint in the center of Mukalla opened fire at Al-Mohammadi.
He affirmed that a verbal altercation broke out between a member of the UAE-backed Hadrami Elite forces and Al-Mohammadi near the Balfaqih Cultural Center in Mukalla, after the car the STC’s head was riding in was stopped after midnight on Thursday.
The altercation came after Al-Mohammadi reprimanded the soldier for wearing a military hat with the Republican bird on it.
Bin Makhashen pointed out that Al-Mohammadi tried to pass by force, but one of soldiers at the checkpoint opened fire on the car, which resulted in “Al-Mohammadi” sustaining minor injuries, and injuring a citizen who happened to be passing by the area during the incident.
According to Bin Makhashen, Al-Mohammadi was transferred by one of his companions to a hospital to receive treatment.
The STC has not issued any statement or clarification regarding the incident at the Elite forces’ security checkpoint.
