Son of prominent tribal sheikh killed in Shabwa

SHABWA, Aug. 19 (YPA) – The son of a prominent tribal sheikh was shot and killed by gunmen on Monday in Shabwa province, a region grappling with an unprecedented security chaos, local sources reported.

The victim, Ali Nasser bin Suwaidana, was killed instantly in the Markha Al-Sufla district following a dispute over a piece of land, according to the sources.

Sources accused an armed member of the Lamtal al-Maraziq tribe of carrying out the assassination. The incident occurred amid a continued absence of state authority in the province, which has been controlled by factions backed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since early 2016.

The pace of vendettas fueled by the leaders of the factions brought in by the UAE from Lahj and Al-Dhalea, has escalated among the sons of the tribes of Shabwa in a way that serves the UAE’s control over the region’s oil fields.
