Hamas: the assassination of Al Jazeera journalists is a savage crime that exceeds all boundaries of fascism and criminality
GAZA, Aug. 11 (YPA) – The Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” has condemned the Israeli occupation army’s assassination of five Al Jazeera channel journalists, including Anas ash-Sharif and Mohamed Qreiqeh, as a “brutal crime that exceeded all levels of fascism and criminality.”
“A new galaxy of journalists has joined 232 of their colleagues who were cold-bloodedly killed by the Nazi occupation army … following a criminal attack by an Israeli suicide drone on their tent in the main courtyard of Al-Shifa Hospital in the west of Gaza City,” Hamas said in a statement on Monday.
The Movement mourned the martyred Al Jazeera journalists — Anas ash-Sharif, Mohamed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Daher, Moamen Eliwa, and Mohamed Nofal.
Hamas hailed Anas ash-Sharif as a “free journalist who fearlessly documented the Israeli crime of starvation and showed to the world scenes of the famine spreading in the Gaza Strip.”
The movement called Israel’s systematic killing of journalists in Gaza as “the largest and most egregious campaign of targeting media professionals ever recorded in any conflict.”
“The fascist occupation army’s spokespersons had repeatedly issued threats against Palestinian journalists, including martyrs al-Sharif and Qreiqeh, aiming to deter them from their professional duty of conveying the truth and images of the brutal genocide in Gaza. These threats were ultimately translated into a horrific killing operation that confirms the fascist behavior of this terrorist entity,” the statement read.
It added, “The assassination of journalists and intimidation of those remaining pave the way for a major crime the occupation is planning to commit in Gaza City after silencing its media voice, so it can isolate its people and carry out massacres away from the world’s watch.”
“These ongoing savage crimes against Palestinian journalists – most recently this atrocious crime – demand widespread mobilization from journalists worldwide to expose the occupation and its crimes, raise the voice of truth, and continue their humanitarian mission of documenting what is happening in Gaza.”
Hamas called upon the international community and its institutions, foremost the UN Security Council, to clearly condemn this crime, move urgently to stop the occupation’s unprecedented violations of international laws and humanitarian norms, and hold its leaders accountable for their crimes against humanity.
