HADRAMOUT, Aug. 1 (YPA) — Armed militants affiliated with UAE-backed factions abducted several activists in the early hours of Friday during a series of night raids in Mukalla, the capital of Yemen’s Hadramout Governorate.
According to a human rights source, fighters loyal to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) stormed homes in the Al-Salam and Al-Dais neighborhoods as well as other parts of the city, targeting individuals who had taken part in recent protests demanding improvements to basic services such as electricity and clean water.
Some of the young activists were reportedly taken at gunpoint, triggering panic among local residents. The number and identities of those detained remain unknown.
The source added that several families resisted the abductions, confronting the armed men and refusing to hand over their sons. Tensions remain high in parts of the city as fears grow over continued raids.
