HADRAMOUT, July 28 (YPA) – Angry protesters stormed the building of the local authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, on Monday.
Activists circulated a video clip showing dozens of angry protesters, demanding improved basic services, including electricity, storming the gate of the local authorities building without being stopped by any security guards.
The storming of the building followed a popular uprising on Sunday evening, during which protesters blocked most of the main and side streets in poor neighborhoods using stones and burning tires to protest the power outages and lack of water in their homes. They also blocked the international road in the Ashihr area east of Mukalla.
It is worth noting that Saudi authorities have been detaining Hadramout Governor Mabkhout bin Madhi, who is affiliated with the General People’s Congress (GPC), since last April. He and several other officials, including Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Yamini, Chief of Staff of the Second Military Region, were detained after the latter was arrested in Mukalla and transferred to Riyadh by Saudi military aircraft at the end of last June.
