SANAA, July 09 (YPA) – A number of members of the European Parliament described the European Union as hypocritical regarding the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate halt to all forms of cooperation and trade with the Zionist entity unless it respects international law.
These demands came during a session held at the European Parliament headquarters in the French city of Strasbourg, devoted to discussing the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, the majority of whom are children and women.
In their remarks, the members indicated that the European Union’s continued economic and diplomatic relations with the Israeli occupation, in light of the gross violations of international and humanitarian law, puts the credibility of the Union at stake and undermines its declared principles regarding human rights and international justice.
They stressed that the Union is required to take concrete measures beyond statements of concern and condemnation, including imposing sanctions and suspending trade agreements and cooperation with the Israeli government until the genocide stops, the siege on Gaza is lifted, and crimes committed against civilians are investigated.
