Protest organized in Mukalla to demand release of activist Bajaber

HADRAMOUT, July 01 (YPA) – A number of human rights and media activists demanded, on Tuesday, the release of those kidnapped and forcibly disappeared from the prisons of pro-UAE factions in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout Governorate.

Participants in the protest in front of the judicial complex in Mukalla raised banners demanding the release of Muzahim Bajaber, head of the Al-Ahqaf Media Platform, who has been kidnapped since mid-June, stressing the need to respect freedom of opinion and expression.

They considered the continued detention of Bajaber, who is loyal to the Hadramout Tribal Alliance, without taking any clear legal measures, a blatant violation of journalistic rights guaranteed by the Yemeni constitution and international laws on press freedom.

They stated that Bajaber’s arrest represents a continuation of the repression of activists and the silencing of them to prevent them from addressing community issues o their suffering due to the collapse of services and living conditions and they demanded his unconditional release.

It is worth noting that the kidnapping of activist Bajaber by pro-Emirati factions came against the backdrop of his posts criticizing the catastrophic situation in electricity and water services and rising prices, amidst the disregard of the local authorities and the government affiliated with the coalition.
