Civilian killed, 21 others injured in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, June 27 (YPA) – A woman was killed and 13 people were injured on Friday as a result of an Israeli airstrike targeting areas in southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health, in a statement issued by the Emergency Operations Center, stated that the preliminary toll of the Israeli airstrikes, which began with a series of attacks on valleys and hills in southern Lebanon and continued with the targeting of an apartment in Nabatieh, resulted in one woman killed and 21 others injured.

The ministry had previously announced that the number of wounded in the attack on the apartment in Nabatieh had risen to 14.

The National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone targeted an apartment near the Teachers’ College in Nabatieh, while Israeli warplanes carried out several raids on areas surrounding the city of Nabatieh and the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa.

For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam strongly condemned the Israeli attacks in Nabatieh, considering them a flagrant violation of the cessation of hostilities arrangements and a threat to stability in the region.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres calling for a one-year renewal of UNIFIL’s mandate.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also called on the international community to intervene to stop Israeli attacks, stating that these attacks do not serve efforts to maintain stability. He added that Israel continues to ignore regional and international resolutions and calls to halt the violence and escalation.
