SHABWA, June 23 (YPA) – The Teachers and Educational Professions Syndicate in the oil-rich Shabwa governorate, which is under the control of Emirati factions, called on the coalition-affiliated government, on Monday, to reconsider the wage structure and salaries of teachers in line with the current economic and living conditions.
In a joint statement, they said that “the living conditions of teachers have become unbearable” and warned of resorting to civil disobedience and a general strike if the teachers’ demands are ignored.
The statement affirmed the teachers’ unions’ rejection of any deductions or reductions in incentives and the food basket, describing these measures as “arbitrary.”
The statement called on educators to rally around the union and actively participate in the protest planned for the coming days in front of the Shabwa Education Office.
It indicated that the unions will begin comprehensive civil disobedience from the first day of school in all Shabwa schools if there is no response to improving teachers’ salaries, stressing the need for salaries to be paid regularly and on time without delay.
The statement also called on all unions in the southern governorates to coordinate positions and unify efforts to confront challenges and protect the rights of educational cadres.
