Prominent US senator warns Trump against being dragged into war with Iran

SANAA, June 14 (YPA) – Independent US Senator, Bernie Sanders, sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, describing him as “extremist” and accusing him of violating international law and threatening the security and stability of the world.

Sanders said in an official statement: “Netanyahu has used the starvation of children in Gaza as a weapon of war in brutal violation of the Geneva Conventions, and now he is launching an illegal, unilateral attack on Iran, threatening to trigger a full-scale regional war.”

Sanders added that the Israeli strikes, which included assassinations and the bombing of facilities linked to the Iranian nuclear program, directly contradict the United States’ stated desire for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear program.

The senator noted that a new round of diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran was scheduled to begin next Sunday, but Netanyahu “chose instead to launch an attack,” considering this move to be a “deliberate attempt to undermine any potential negotiated agreement.”

Sanders stressed that “the United States must declare clearly that we will not be drawn into a new war provoked by Netanyahu,” calling for doing everything possible, in cooperation with the international community, to prevent the escalation of this conflict and push the warring parties to the negotiating table.
