Eritrean authorities release 37 Yemeni fishermen

HODEIDA, May 23 (YPA) – Eritrean authorities released on Saturday about 37 Yemeni fishermen weeks after they were arbitrarily and unlawfully detained, with confiscating their boats.

Media outlets reported on Saturday that the released fishermen arrived at the Khokha port after being detained for four weeks.

During their detention, the fishermen were subjected to ill-treatment.

This release came after a series of repeated violations that the Eritrean authorities practiced against Yemeni fishermen in the Red Sea, the most recent of which occurred a few days ago when an Eritrean patrol opened fire on a Yemeni fishing boat carrying 31 fishermen within Yemeni territorial waters.
