Libya: Neutral forces deployed in Tripoli to monitor ceasefire

TRIPOLI, May 15 (YPA) – The Ministry of Defence of the Government of National Unity (GNU) of Libya has announced the imposition of a ceasefire in the capital, Tripoli, and has begun deploying “neutral contingents” to enforce it.

This came in a statement released  by the GNU.

According to the ministry, the decision is part of the authorities’ efforts to protect the civilian population, preserve institutions and prevent further escalation.

“The Ministry of Defence calls on all parties to fully comply with the ceasefire and to refrain from inflammatory statements or any actions on the ground that could lead to renewed tensions,” the statement added.
