MADRID, May 15 (YPA) – Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez described on Wednesday the Israeli entity as a “genocidal state”.
This came during a question-and-answer session in parliament in Madrid, in response to criticism from Catalan MP Gabriel Rufian, who accused the Socialist leader of maintaining trade relations with Israeli occupation despite the ongoing war in Gaza.
“I want to make something clear here, Mr. Ruffian,” Sanchez said. “We do not do business with a country that is committing genocide. We do not.”
In response to Sanchez’s criticism, Tel Aviv summoned Madrid’s ambassador for a reprimand following Sanchez’s strongest statement since the start of the war in Gaza.
According to local media reports, this was the first time Sánchez had publicly used the term “genocidal state,” a term frequently being used by his coalition partner, the left-wing Sumar party.
Spain was among the first European countries to cut off military aid to “Israel”, demanding an immediate end to the war on the Gaza Strip and supporting legal action against it at the International Court of Justice.
