Who will hold US officials accountable for committing war crimes in Yemen?
SANAA, April 29 (YPA) – The Minister of Social Affairs in the Sanaa government, Samir Baja’ala, explained during his meeting on Monday with the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCHR) in Yemen, Marine Dean, that the commission is aware of the shelter center for illegal immigrants that was bombed by American aircraft in Saada province, which killed 68 people and injured 47, an infinite toll.
Baja’ala noted the commission had previously visited it and learned about the services it provides.
In a statement issued today, the Immigration and Passports Authority in Sanaa confirmed that the bombed center is under the direct supervision of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which conducts periodic visits to its residents. The most recent visit was on Thursday, April 24, to receive the health unit, whose construction was overseen by a specialized engineer, and to supply it with medicines and medical supplies.
The International Organization for Migration issued a statement confirming the deaths of several African migrants. Although this statement does not reflect the scale of the crime, it exposes the true nature of American crimes in Yemen and reveals Washington’s brutality. It also exposes Washington’s deception of the world and its claims that “the sites bombed by American aircraft in Yemen are military sites,” given that this testimony is issued by an international organization.
In light of these testimonies, it has been proven that the US forces committed a full-fledged war crime in Yemen and that they flagrantly violated international law and international humanitarian law, especially the Geneva Conventions of 1949, the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees of 1951 and its 1967 Protocol, and international conventions related to the protection of illegal immigrants. This requires the international community and UN organizations to take urgent action, form an international commission to investigate the crime, hold those responsible, especially US President Donald Trump, accountable before international courts, and convict them as war criminals.
Today, Sanaa requested, through the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, the formation of an investigation committee into this crime, and if these organizations that claim humanity do not move to form the investigation committee, this will put them in doubt and will make them a partner of Washington in the crimes it is committing in Yemen. The crime of targeting the center for illegal immigrants in Saada is only one crime among many crimes that Washington has committed and is still committing against civilians in Yemen, and by their nature, they are full-fledged war crimes.
