Officer loyal to former President Hadi commits suicide in Abyan

ABYAN, March 15 (YPA) – An officer loyal to the resigned former President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi committed suicide in Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen.

Local sources reported that Colonel Ahmed Ali Mater ended his life by shooting himself in the heart, dying instantly in the Al Wade’a district, the birthplace of Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The sources explained that Mater had been suffering from difficult living conditions and deterioration of health, with no support or care from the concerned authorities, despite his continuous hardships over the years.

They indicated that the Ministry of Defense in the Saudi-backed government and local authorities neglected his health and living conditions, pushing him to this tragic suicide.

Many officers and military leaders from Abyan have faced marginalization since the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) took control of Aden following the August 2019 clashes.

It is worth noting that the suspension of salaries for military personnel by the Saudi-backed government for several months, as part of a systematic policy to impoverish the people of the southern governorates, has exacerbated the suffering and psychological and social conditions of citizens.
