ABYAN, Feb. 28 (YPA) – Clashes erupted on Thursday between the forces of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) and armed groups in Abyan province, southern Yemen, resulting in deaths and injuries.
Local sources reported that violent clashes took place between gunmen affiliated with the STC forces and armed elements believed to belong to Al-Qaeda in the Shaab Al-Rafd area, east of the Modiyah district, in the center of the province.
The sources reported that the clashes resulted in human losses on both sides.
These events come in the context of the escalation of the conflict and ongoing confrontations between the STC factions and Al-Qaeda, supported by the Muslim Brotherhood, along with other formations, within the province, which is under the control of the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition.
