SANAA, Feb. 22 (YPA) – Somerset Council in the UK has passed a motion supporting divestment from companies that support Israel’s military occupation and apartheid, marking another major step for the Palestine solidarity movement and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign.
The proposal calls on the Avon Pension Fund to divest from companies that facilitate Israel’s violations of international law, including arms manufacturers that supply the occupation and companies operating in illegal Israeli settlements.
The decision comes after months of grassroots campaigning by local groups, including Friends of Palestine in Weston-super-Mare and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), which works alongside programme members to lobby for ethical investment policies.
