Significant increases in gasoline, domestic gas prices burden Socotra people

SOCOTRA, Feb. 04 (YPA) – The local authorities loyal to the UAE have imposed a significant increase in the prices of petroleum products and cooking gas on the residents of the Socotra Archipelago province, located east of the Gulf of Aden.

The so-called “Socotra National Conference,” affiliated with the Islah Party in Socotra, stated on Tuesday its categorical rejection of this significant increase in prices, calling for broad popular movements to demand citizens’ rights through legal and legitimate means.

The conference said in a statement that it was surprised by this increase, as the price of a 20-liter gallon of gasoline reached 40,000 Yemeni riyals, and the cost of a small domestic gas cylinder reached about 26,000 riyals and a large one 50,000 Yemeni riyals.

The statement indicated that this sudden increase came as a result of what it described as the negligence of the local authority and the relevant oversight bodies, calling on the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to provide petroleum products at reasonable prices away from the monopoly policies practiced by the Emirati company “ADNOC.”

The conference also called on the residents of Socotra to unite their ranks to confront this rise, which increases the burdens of their daily lives and their worsening suffering.
