SHABWA, Feb. 03 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia is planning to deploy “Dera Al-Watan” factions in the oil-rich Shabwa province in southeastern Yemen, which is currently under UAE-backed control, informed sources stated on Monday.
The move aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s military presence in the region, with the potential to choose local military leader “Jahdal Hanash” to lead the factions.
The sources reported that Saudi Arabia has trained hundreds of elements from the “Dera Al-Watan” in camps near the Yemeni border in the Sharorah area and places adjacent to the Al-Wadiah border crossing.
The Saudi move came as part of a strategy to expand its influence in areas rich in natural resources in Yemen and to reduce the presence of the Southern Transitional Council factions affiliated with the UAE.
