French Agency: Saudi Arabia breaks record in executions of foreigners

PARIS, Nov. 18 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia has executed at least 100 foreigners on its territory this year, breaking a record with an unprecedented increase, a report issued by “Agence France-Presse” revealed on Sunday.

The latest execution occurred on Saturday in the southwestern Najran region against a Yemeni citizen who Saudi authorities claimed was convicted of smuggling drugs into the Kingdom, according to the report.

The report pointed out that the number of executions carried out by Saudi Arabia this year is three times the number in 2022-2023, with 34 foreigners executed on its territory.

The European Saudi Organization for Human Rights, based in Berlin, stated that the executions have already broken a record, with the largest number of executions in one year.

Taha Al-Hajji, the organization’s legal director, said, “This is the largest number of executions of foreigners in one year, as Saudi Arabia has never executed 100 foreigners in one year.”

The report explained that “Saudi Arabia has faced ongoing criticism over its use of the death penalty, which human rights groups have condemned as excessive and out of step.”
