Saudi Arabia returns senior official to Aden after 30-year absence

ADEN, Oct. 15 (YPA) – The first Yemeni prime minister arrived in the city of Aden, which is controlled by the Saudi-led coalition, on Tuesday after leaving the city nearly 30 years ago.

Political sources confirmed that Saudi Arabia returned the head of the first government after Yemeni unity in May 1990, Haidar Abu Bakr al-Attas, to Aden, accompanied by the President of the “Presidential Leadership Council,” Rashad al-Alimi, to turn the page on the “Southern Transitional Council” (STC), loyal to the UAE.

Al-Attas’ return is the first to the city since he left it following the war in the summer of 1994 with the regime of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Islah Party.

Political observers believe that Al-Attas’ return may be an indication of a Saudi decision to resolve the file of the demands promoted by the STC within the framework of restructuring the “Leadership Council” and a new government after relations between Al-Alimi and his deputy, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, the STC’s president, reached a rupture.
