New crisis hits Aden, exacerbating citizens’ suffering

ADEN, Aug. 14 (YPA) – A crisis in internal public transportation across the Saudi-controlled city of Aden has intensified over recent weeks, imposing a new burden on residents amid a sharp deterioration in basic services and living conditions.

Local sources reported that a severe shortage of gas-powered transport options has halted traffic and disrupted movement between districts. The transit issue coincides with compounding service failures, notably frequent power and water outages and shortages of domestic cooking gas.

Sources added that the crisis is compounded by a degradation in sewage infrastructure, leading to wastewater overflows in residential neighborhoods and main streets, along with delayed civil service salary payments and declining purchasing power.

The city continues to face complex service challenges, security instability, and an influx of illicit drugs entering through local networks since 2016.
