European Union naval mission says SOUNION ship successfully towed to safe area

WORLD, Sept. 17 (YPA) -The European Union’s Red Sea naval mission (ASPIDES) to Protect Israeli ships said that the Greek-registered oil tanker MT SOUNION has been successfully towed to a safe area in the Red Sea.

“Under protection of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES ??, MV SOUNION has been successfully towed to a safe area without any oil spill. While private stakeholders complete the salvage operation, ASPIDES will continue to monitor the situation,” ASPIDES reported on Monday.

Sanaa had announced a few days ago that it had allowed  the withdrawal of the SOUNION ship, which had been struck by a military attack carried out by the Yemeni armed forces on August 21st due to the ship owner’s violation of the ban on entering ports in occupied Palestine.

Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council in Sanaa, stated that the reasons behind the Sanaa forces’ decision to allow the withdrawal of the SOUNION ship was driven by a strong concern for the environment and the desire to prevent any potential environmental disaster.
