HODEIDA, Aug. 22 (YPA) – About 31 Yemeni fishermen returned on Thursday to the fishing port of Hodeida after being kidnapped and tortured in Eritrean prisons.
During their reception, Mohammed Al-Tawil, the port director, denounced the continued crimes of kidnapping and violations against Yemeni fishermen by the Eritrean authorities.
He called on the concerned international organizations to assume their responsibilities and condemn the crimes continuing against the fishermen.
Meanwhile, the fishermen explained that the Eritrean authorities kidnapped them from Yemeni territorial waters while they were fishing on board three boats and took them to their prisons at gunpoint.
They reported that during the kidnapping period they were subjected to all kinds of torture, starvation and ill-treatment, then they were forced to return in one boat, while the rest of their boats and fishing equipment were confiscated.
