Enemy media: Eilat port faces critical situation

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, July 18 (YPA) -The Chairman of the Eilat Port Authority, Avi Hormero, has demanded financial assistance from the Israeli government, Israeli media reported today, Wednesday.

Hormero has threatened to lay off half of the port’s employees due to its facilities being out of operation for the past eight months.

According to the website “Arab 48,” Hormero, who is both the Chairman and a co-owner of the Eilat Port Authority, sent a letter to Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev requesting financial aid. He described the situation as “critical” due to the port’s inactivity resulting from the ongoing war on Gaza.

The port’s management has warned that approximately 50-60 of the 120 employees may be dismissed if the government does not provide financial support, as the port has been inactive for eight months following Yemeni attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

Hormero has also requested an urgent meeting with Regev to discuss the port’s situation, stating that “The Eilat Port has been inactive for eight months due to the ‘Flood of Al-Aqsa’ and the closure of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.”

Notably, before the war, Eilat Port was a key entry point for importing cars into Israel, handling around 150,000 cars last year. However, no cars have arrived at the port since the beginning of this year.
