ABUJA, June 26 (YPA) – About 21 people were killed and nine others injured in a terrorist attack in western Nigeria.
“Armed terrorist groups attacked a security forces center near near the village of Tassia, killing 21 people, including a civilian, and wounding nine,” Agence France-Presse quoted on Wednesday the Nigerian Ministry of Defense as saying in a statement, confirming that dozens of attackers were killed during clashes with the security forces.
The ministry declared three days of national mourning, during which flags will be lowered at half-mast, indicating the deployment of air and ground reinforcements to chase the militants who fled.
Tassia is located in the Tillabéri Region bordering Mali and Burkina Faso, where militants linked to the terrorist organizations Al-Qaeda and ISIS launch attacks targeting security forces and civilians.
