SANAA, Jan. 13 (YPA) – The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressed on Saturday his concern about the recent developments related to Yemen.
He reiterated the UN Secretary-General’s call on all parties to “avoid any steps that would lead to a worsening of the situation in Yemen, an escalation in the Red Sea or an increase in regional tensions at this critical time.”
Grundberg stressed the importance of preserving the progress that has been made regarding peace efforts since the 2022 truce, including the commitments that the parties recently made in December 2023.
He referred to the ongoing discussions on the UN road map, which would activate the ceasefire, resume an UN-brokered inclusive political process, and address basic priorities for the benefit of the Yemeni people.
The UN envoy also expressed his deep concern about the increasingly destabilizing regional situation, which may lead to the negative impact on peace efforts in Yemen and on stability and security in the region.
Grundberg urged what he described as “all parties” to exercise the utmost restraint and to prioritize diplomatic paths over military options.
