Four injured in armed attack on sit-in camp in Shabwa

SHABWA, Jan. 13 (YPA) – At least four citizens were seriously injured in an armed attack on a sit-in camp of Shabwa tribes demanding reduced oil derivative prices near Al-Oqla area of Armaa District, controlled by the UAE-backed factions on Saturday.

Tribal sources in the Shabwa province accused pro-UAE faction leaders of planning an attack and sending militants to attack protesters’ camp with gunfire.

According to the sources, the attack came after a series of threats made by the leaders of the “Shabwa Defense and Al-Amaliqa” factions last week, urging the protesters to leave the area for security reasons.

The sit-in area near the Al-Oqla oil fields is witnessing armed tensions between the Shabwa tribes and the factions loyal to the UAE, which are trying to cover up the attackers without arresting them.

For the tenth day in a row, the protesting people of Shabwa are demanding that the prices of fuel be reduced similar to the city of Marib, which is controlled by Islah Party-affiliated authorities, so that the price of a 20-liter gallon will be 3,500 riyals instead of selling it for approximately 25,000 riyals in the Shabwa districts.
